John Burkhalter of Little Rock was appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to fulfill the unexpired term of Cliff Hoofman on the Arkansas State Highway Commission. Burkhalter took the Oath of Office on January 14, 2011. His term will expire in January 2017.
Burkhalter received his degree in Civil Engineering from University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1980. He has project management experience in planning, design and construction of environmental projects, water and sewer facilities, public utilities, streets, drainage, industrial facilities, subdivisions and multifamily design. Extensive experience as a contractor in building construction, water and wastewater systems, dirt work, concrete, asphalt, streets, warehouses, buildings and apartments.
He has served on numerous commissions and boards such as the Pathfinder Schools and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. He is the past Chairman for the Lung Association and UAMS (Gala).
