LITTLE ROCK (5-28)

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is making plans to do maintenance work on the I-540 Arkansas River Bridge, between Fort Smith and Van Buren.  The work will necessitate the closing of the outside traffic lane, only in the eastbound direction at this time.  Work is expected to begin on the morning of Wednesday, June 4, 2003, and should be completed by Thursday, June 19, 2003, weather permitting.  Plans are for the work, and associated lane closures, to begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. and conclude by approximately 3:30 p.m. each workday.  No lane closures are anticipated on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.  Motorists who normally use I-540 between Fort Smith and Van Buren are encouraged to consider alternate routes, when and where possible, while this work is underway and, as always, their cooperation and patience will be appreciated.
