AHTD TO ERECT TOURIST-ORIENTED DIRECTIONAL SIGNS LITTLE ROCK (11-09) The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) is taking applications to erect Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs (TODS) on Arkansas Highways.
The TODS will be erected for qualified activities or sites of reasonable
interest to the traveling public not residing in the immediate area of the
business or activity.
The activity or site for which TODS are proposed to be erected must meet
specific criteria to be eligible. Motorist
services such as gas, food, lodging, camping or vehicle repair may submit
applications. Also eligible are
tourist attractions such as historic, scientific, cultural, scenic or
entertainment sites. Commercial
interests for the public not residing in the area and seasonal agricultural
interests offering fresh, locally produced, seasonal products may also qualify.
With the exception of motorist services, the site must derive a major
portion of its income from visitors or motorists not residing in the immediate
area.
Due to Federal Highway Administration regulations pertaining to size and
spacing of the signs, and the need to reserve certain locations for future
directional signing, space may not be available to all businesses that apply.
To receive an application or to obtain more information, contact the
AHTD’s Beautification Section at (501) 569-2088.
Applications must be received by January 28, 2005.
