ARKANSAS HIGHWAY POLICE SEIZE DRUG SHIPMENT LITTLE ROCK (7-28)
Officers from
the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State Highway and
Transportation Department (AHTD) have uncovered another significant shipment of
illegal drugs, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.
On Sunday, July 25, 2004, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a tractor-trailer
rig was stopped for inspection at the Highway Police station on Interstate 40 at
Alma. Prior to inspection, the co-driver and a passenger were
observed attempting to relocate approximately 88 pounds of marijuana from the
truck’s cab to the front exterior of another truck parked on the lot as an
officer was speaking with the driver. The
marijuana was individually packaged in plastic bundles, which were contained in
a large nylon duffel bag.
The driver was identified as Maurice A. Simpson, age 28, of Baltimore,
Maryland. The co-driver was
identified as Wesley A. Harris, 33, of Windsor Mill, Maryland.
A male passenger, Kevin L. Mora, age unknown, was on board the truck as
well, however, his state of residence was not listed.
It is believed the truck was traveling from California to Pennsylvania
transporting a partial load of clothing. All
three individuals were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with
Intent to Deliver, a felony, and were booked at the Crawford County Sheriff’s
Department. They were all released
on separate $10,000 bonds on Monday.
