LITTLE ROCK (09-29) – Arkansas Highway Commissioner Jonathan Barnett of Siloam Springs has been elected Vice Chairman of the Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).   Barnett’s election came at the AASHTO Annual Meeting held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 18, 2004.

     AASHTO is a national organization comprised of highway officials from all 50 states.  The Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards develops programs for presentation to the AASHTO general membership and recommends policy positions and resolutions to the AASHTO Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Meetings are scheduled as needed to enable the committee to complete its duties.

     “I’m very honored to serve as vice chairman of this committee,” Barnett said. “With so many things happening in transportation on the national level, I think it’s important to stay as informed as possible. This committee provides a mechanism to obtain that information and to share with commissioners from other states.”
