PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE IDENTIFIED FOR NEW HIGHWAY 35 CONNECTION

LITTLE ROCK (1-3)

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has identified Alignment 3 as the preferred route for a proposed new highway connection for Highway 35 north of Monticello, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

Comments received at a public meeting held on September 16, 2004 revealed that most residents  in the area supported Alignment 3, which was first proposed by Drew County Judge Damon Lampkin. The new highway will be a two-lane route connecting Highway 35 with Highway 425 just north of Monticello.

The preferred alignment will now be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration for approval. A design public hearing will be held following that approval and upon development of a preliminary design.
