PREFERRED ROUTE IDENTIFIED FOR SHERIDAN BYPASS LITTLE ROCK (08-01) The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Sheridan Bypass, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.
A Public Hearing was held on June 23, 2005, to take comments from the
public on the EA. The AHTD has
identified the western alignment as the preferred route.
This decision is based upon a review of the impacts outlined in the EA,
consultation with other agencies including the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA),
and consideration of public comments collected throughout the environmental
review process.
The next step in project development for the Sheridan Bypass will be to
conduct surveys, archeological work, and design for the preferred alternative.
Once preliminary design is complete, a Design Public Hearing will be held
in the area. After the comments from
the Design Public Hearing have been addressed, the AHTD will request a
“Finding of No Significant Impact” from the FHWA in order to proceed with
implementation of the project.
