RECORD OF DECISION APPROVED FOR SPRINGDALE NORTHERN BYPASS

LITTLE ROCK (2-28)

The Federal Highway Administration has issued a “Record of Decision” (ROD)  approving the alignment for the Springdale Northern Bypass, according to Arkansas St ate Highway and Transportation Department Director Dan Flowers.

The public comment period on the Final Environmental Impact St ate ment (FEIS) for the project ended November 23, 2005.  After a review of the comments received, the preferred line as identified in the FEIS was approved as the Selected Alignment Alternative in the ROD.  The alignment can be viewed at www.arkansashighways.com under the “Publications” tab.  This decision was based upon a review of the impacts outlined in the environmental studies, consultation with other agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and consideration of public comments collected throughout the environmental review process.  In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given a “Lack of Objection” rating to the project.

The next step in project development for the Springdale Bypass will be to complete surveys and proceed with design work.  A design public hearing will be held in the area upon completion of preliminary design to solicit comments on the more exact layout and right of way requirements of the bypass.
