LITTLE ROCK (5-4)  Work is underway on improving the interchange at Jefferson Avenue and Interstate 30 in Texarkana, according to Arkansas Highway Commission Chairman Prissy Hickerson of Texarkana.

     The project will widen Jefferson Avenue to five lanes through its interchange with Interstate 30,   including the replacement of the existing overpass with a five-lane structure.  Southern Pavers, Inc. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was the low bidder on the project at $6,247,457.99. 

     “Work got underway at the end of April with some barrier walls being placed in the median,” Hickerson stated.  “This project will improve the flow of traffic in the interchange area and make it safer for motorists.” 

     Hickerson said completion is expected on the project in the fall of 2007.
