Notice to MediaMary P. "Prissy Hickerson Takes Oath as New Highway CommissionerJanuary 21, 1997 -- Mary P. "Prissy" Hickerson of Texarkana was officially sworn in today for a 10-year term on the Arkansas State Highway Commission. Hickerson received the oath of office from Court of Appeals Judge John S. Stroud, Jr. of Texarkana. Hickerson was appointed to the Commission by Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee on December 23, 1996. Her tenure on the Commission expires in January 2007. Hickerson, 45, the business manager for her husbands dental practice, is very involved in community service. She is presently on the Board of Directors of Temple Memorial Treatment Center Board, a post she has held since 1986. Hickerson is a 1983 graduate of Leadership Texarkana and a past member of the Leadership Texarkana Advisory Board, a past director of the Volunteer Center Board and a former member of St. Michael Hospital Friends of the Foundation. She is a former officer of the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council Board. Hickerson has also been a member of Women for the Arts since 1984 and served as its director for two years. In addition to community involvement, Hickerson has been active in Arkansas politics, working in the Governors 1992, 1993 and 1994 campaigns. She has also served as Secretary of the Arkansas Republican Party since 1995. She and her husband of 28 years, Randy, have one son, Chris and are members of the Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana. For Further Information Contact:
