INTERSECTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 49 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 79
IN MONROE COUNTY CONVERTED TO 4-WAY STOP

March 21, 1997 -- The intersection of U.S. Highway 49 and U.S. Highway 79 east of Clarendon in Monroe County will be converted to a four-way stop beginning on Monday, March 24.

The intersection is being converted after studies revealed a need for modification. Crews from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will add stop signs to U.S. Highway 79. Traffic flow at the present forces only motorists traveling Highway 49 to stop at its intersection with Highway 79. The change is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon.

Temporary signs will be placed on Highway 79, as well as permanent warning signs with flags, notifying motorists of the approaching stop signs.
