Bridge Lighting Repair to Cause Closure


June 6, 1997 -- A contractor for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will be closing one lane of the Mississippi River Bridge between Lake Village, Arkansas and Greenville, Mississippi beginning Tuesday, June 10. The contractor will be working on the bridge’s navigation and overhead lighting system, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

A single lane will be closed while the contractor performs the repairs. The project is expected to be complete later this year. One lane of the bridge will be closed between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on the following dates, weather permitting:

June 10-14

July 14-17 August 19-23
June 16-19 July 22-26 August 25-28
June 24-28 July 28-31 September 3-6
June 30-July 3 August 5-9 September 8-11
July 7-12 August 11-14

This work is part of a $256,000 project to repair the electrical system on the bridge. Traffic and Lighting Systems, Inc. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was the low bidder for the project.

Motorists are cautioned that the speed limit will be reduced in work zones and some delays can be expected along the project route.
