Notice to MediaStudents Complete Summer Transportation EducationJuly 18, 1997 -- Grasping the opportunity to learn more about the transportation profession, 25 young men and women recently graduated from the Summer Transportation Institute Program (STIP) at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. "We are very proud to be a part of this program. Getting young people excited about transportation employment opportunities is a goal we have here at the Department," Flowers said. STIP is a partnership among the AHTD, Federal Highway Administration and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff that provides 9th and 10th grade students an opportunity to learn about transportation careers. The four-week residential program included field trips to the Pine Bluff Train Museum, Little Rock Airport and tours of AHTD facilities and project sites. The program is open to all students in Arkansas who have a B-average, are enrolled or have completed pre-algebra and have an interest in science, engineering, transportation or technology.
