Overlay Project to Close One Lane of Higdon Ferry Road

August 6, 1997 -- Work will begin Friday, August 8 on an overlay project on a section of Higdon Ferry Road in Garland County, according to Dan Flowers, Director of the AHTD. Although this road is not a state highway, work is being performed with federal funds which are administered by AHTD. The project is located between the Hot Springs city limits south to the intersection of Highway 7 (Central Avenue).

The contractor will begin the overlay process Friday morning at approximately 7:00 a.m. and will continue work, weather permitting, until 6:00 p.m. Friday evening. Work may continue again at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning and continue throughout the day until 6:00 p.m. Temporary lane closures will be required until the project’s completion. No work will be performed on Sunday. The project is expected to be complete by August 15, weather permitting.

This work is part of a $140,500 project to resurface portions of the road. Mid-State Construction & Materials Inc. of Malvern, Arkansas was the low bidder for the project.

Motorists are cautioned that the speed limit will be reduced in work zones and should exercise care in the area. Some delays can be expected along the project route. Motorists may want to use alternate routes or allow extra time.
