AHTD to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Improvements

To County Roads 30 and 61 in Crawford and Washington Counties

September 22, 1997 -- The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will hold an open forum public hearing from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 1997 according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. The meeting will be held at the Ridgerunner Cafe, 11333 West Arkansas Highway 74 at Devil’s Den State Park. The hearing offers citizens the opportunity to express their views on the proposed improvement of a county road between Lee Creek and Devil’s Den State Park.

The Arkansas State Highway Commission, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, is planning the project to improve a section of roadway between Lee Creek (north end of State Highway 220) and State Highway 170 at Devil’s Den State Park. The existing roadway is designated as County Road 30 in Crawford County and County Road 61 in Washington County. The proposed project generally consists of grading, minor drainage structures and improving the roadway to consist of two 10-foot paved travel lanes with two-foot shoulders. The roadway crosses private land holdings as well as U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Property, although the entire project falls within the boundaries of the Boston Mountain Ranger District of the Ozark National Forest.

The open forum hearing allows citizens the opportunity to attend anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. Personnel will be on hand during those hours to answer questions and take written or oral comments about the project.

Preliminary plans, information relative to environmental studies, proposed right of way acquisition, and other pertinent information relative to the proposed project, as well as written statements received from interested persons, agencies or groups, are available for public inspection and copying at the office of the District Engineer, AHTD, 4019 Towson, in Fort Smith.

Anyone wishing to submit written statements or other exhibits in place of, or in addition to, written statements made at the public hearing may submit them to the District Engineer, AHTD, P.O. Box 1424, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72902-1424. Such submissions must be received no later than Friday, October 10, 1997.
