AHTD Accepting Transportation

Assistance Program Applications

October 24, 1997 -- The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is accepting applications for the 1998 Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 transportation assistance grants, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

The goal of this program is to provide paratransit vehicles to private, nonprofit organizations operating special transportation services to meet the needs of elderly persons and persons with disabilities. The program also seeks to enhance coordination of federally assisted programs and services to encourage the most efficient use of Federal resources. The Federal amount is limited to 80% of the vehicle costs with the remaining match required to come from local sources.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will purchase all vehicles in accordance with the state procurement practices from specifications developed by the Department.

Applications and guidelines are now available to interested organizations by writing the Public Transportation Section, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, P.O. Box 2261, Little Rock, AR 72203, or calling (501) 569-2471. Completed applications must be returned to the Department no later than January 15, 1998.
