Notice to MediaAHTD Director Dan Flowers ElectedVice-President of National OrganizationNovember 17, 1997 -- Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department Director Dan Flowers was elected Vice-President of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) during the groups annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the national organization is to encourage a balanced transportation system in the United States. Flowers is a Registered Professional Engineer, a member of the University of Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineering, the Little Rock Engineers Club, an executive committee member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), a member of the board of directors of AASHTO, chairman of the AASHTO Standing Committee on Highways and President of the Arkansas State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He is immediate past President of the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO) and serves on the Mack-Blackwell Transportation Centers Professional Advisory Board at the University of Arkansas. Flowers, who has been with the Department since 1969, became Director on January 3, 1994. The North Little Rock resident is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a degree in Civil Engineering.
