Bridge Inspection to Cause Closure

December 2, 1997 -- Crews from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will be conducting an in-depth bridge inspection on the Highway 229 bridge in Benton. The bridge is also known as the Ed Dobson Bridge crossing the Saline River.

The inspection is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, December 17 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. Should inclement weather prevent the inspection, crews will be on hand Thursday, December 18 to examine the structure.

The bridge will reopen immediately after the inspection is completed. To accommodate the inspectors and equipment, both lanes of the bridge must be closed during that time period. Drivers are urged to take a different route while the inspection is being completed.
