City of Warren Receives National Recreational Trails Funds

February 26, 1998 -- The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department has awarded National Recreational Trails funds to the City of Warren, according to Commissioner John "M" Lipton of Warren.

These funds are appropriated by Congress to build and maintain motorized, non-motorized and multiple use recreational trails. Local, state and federal government agencies and incorporated not-for-profit agencies are eligible to apply for and utilize these funds.

The City of Warren will receive $10,000 in matching funds to construct the Warren Walking Trail. The completion date for the project is December 31, 1998. "Donations of private funds, materials and services can be counted toward the sponsor’s share of the project cost," Lipton explained.

The walking trail will be located within the Warren City Park and will consist of four-foot wide concrete walkways measuring approximately 1,465 feet in length.
