Notice to MediaPress conference scheduled to kick off new safe driving campaignJune 24, 1998 "Buckled, Sober and Safe" is the theme of the "Arkansas Drive for Life" safe driving campaign being launched conference will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Wednesday, July 1. A press the front parking lot of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Departments (AHTD) Central Office Complex, I-30 at Baseline Road, in Little Rock to unveil campaign materials. The "Arkansas Drive for Life" campaign is being sponsored by the AHTD in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Dan Flowers, Director of the AHTD, will announce the effort. Others scheduled to speak include Col. John Bailey, Director of the Arkansas State Police; and Georgia Chakiris, Regional Administrator for NHTSA. The campaign is part of an intensified law enforcement and public education effort to get motorists to buckle up, drive sober and drive safely. Examples of campaign materials will be on hand at the press conference, including a portable billboard, posters, brochures and samples of public service announcements. The AHTDs "Rollover Convincer" will also be available for demonstrations showing the potential consequences to an unbuckled vehicle occupant of a rollover crash. One of the video public service announcements created for this campaign by The Communications Group of Little Rock has already received national recognition for excellence in television advertising.
