Warren Intersection to Become Four-Way Stop

WARREN INTERSECTION TO BECOME FOUR-WAY STOP

LITTLE ROCK (5-28) -- Crews from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will be installing additional stop signs at the Highway 278/Highway 15 intersection in Warren on Monday, June 7, according to John Lipton, Vice Chairman of the Arkansas Highway Commission.

Currently, traffic on Highway 15 must stop, but motorists on Highway 278 do not. Beginning June 7, traffic from all directions will be required to stop. Large stop signs will be installed on Highway 278 and the flashing beacon currently in place at the intersection will flash red in all four directions. Advance warning signs will also be installed on Highway 278 to alert motorists of the change.

"Safety is our top priority, and we believe making this intersection a four-way stop will cut down on the number of accidents at this location," Lipton said. "Once motorists in the area adjust to the change, I think we’ll see a difference. The Highway Department will continue to monitor the intersection to see if any additional changes are necessary."

AHTD crews should be able to make all the changes on Monday, June 7, weather permitting. Motorists in the area on June 7 may incur some travel delays while the signs are being installed and the beacon is being modified.
