Arkansas Highway Police Uncover Load of Marijuana

LITTLE ROCK (11-10) – Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department have uncovered a large shipment of illegal drugs, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

On Monday evening, November 7, at approximately 7:15 P.M., a tractor-trailer rig was stopped at the Highway Police station on Interstate 40 at Lehi near West Memphis. During a check of the truck a Highway Police officer discovered 50 bundles of marijuana inside three large duffel bags in the sleeper compartment. The total weight of the bundles was estimated at 160 pounds.

The driver identified himself as Jose Moreno, age 28, of Chicago, Illinois. It is believed that he was traveling from Laredo, Texas to Chicago, Illinois. The only cargo the truck was transporting was the marijuana. Moreno was charged with Possession of a Control Substance With Intent To Deliver, a felony, and booked in at the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department.
