Campaign Signs Not Permitted on Highway Right of Way

LITTLE ROCK (4-18) – All candidates for political office in Arkansas are reminded that it is unlawful to place campaign signs on highway right of way, AHTD Director Dan Flowers announced.

Several Arkansas Statutes address the matter of placing unauthorized signs on highway right of way. Only official directional, informational and/or regulatory highway signs, placed by the Highway and Transportation Department, are permitted on state-owned highway property. All other signs will be removed. These statutes apply to all unauthorized signs, not just campaign signs.

Small "yard" signs that are placed on the right of way will be removed by department personnel and stored at the nearest Area Maintenance Headquarters. Sign owners can pick up their signs during normal business hours.

Owners of large "billboard" type signs will be notified and given an opportunity to remove the sign. If not removed, the department will remove the sign and take it to the nearest Area Maintenance Headquarters.
