ROCK (5-03) – A Record of Decision (ROD) was officially signed by the
Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) regarding the selected location of the
proposed Great River Bridge linking Arkansas and Mississippi, according to Dan
Flowers, Director of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.
“The
ROD is the final approval needed on the selected location of this bridge,”
stated Highway Commissioner John “M” Lipton.
Officials
from the Arkansas Highway Commission and Arkansas State Highway and
Transportation Department (AHTD) joined representatives from the Mississippi
Highway Commission, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Federal
Highway Administration at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Dumas Community Center
for the signing of the document.
The proposed bridge will cross the Mississippi River just north of Arkansas City
and will connect U.S. Highway 65 near McGehee, Arkansas with Highway 1 near
Benoit, Mississippi. “The
next step will involve selecting a consultant to design the bridge and
