Notice to MediaHighway Police Discover Over 2,600 Pounds of Marijuana Encased in Trailer CeilingLITTLE
ROCK (6-2) –
Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State
Highway and Transportation Department have discovered another large shipment of
marijuana, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. On
Tuesday evening, May 30, a tractor-trailer was stopped for a routine safety
inspection at the Arkansas Highway Police weigh station at Lehi near West
Memphis on Interstate 40. An
AHP officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana from what appeared to be an empty
trailer. Upon
further examination, the officer noticed that the ceiling of the trailer was
sagging. After inspecting the
ceiling, 33 specially made compartments were discovered that contained
approximately 2,600 pounds of marijuana. David
Guerrero, age 23, of Las Cruces, New Mexico was arrested and booked into the
Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department for possession of a controlled
substance with intent to deliver. He
is being held at the Crittenden County Jail under a $2,650,000 bond. This is the fourth large load of illegal drugs that have been discovered along highways in east Arkansas this year. Including Tuesday’s seizure, over 3,500 pounds of marijuana and 4.4 pounds of cocaine have been confiscated near West Memphis. “Arrests such as this prove that the specialized training required for our Highway Police officers is worth it,” Flowers said. “Once again, our drug interdiction tactics and techniques have taken a large amount of drugs off the street,” Highway Police Chief Ron Burks noted. #### For Further Information Contact:
