I-40 Reconstruction to Cause Mayflower Ramp Closures

LITTLE ROCK (6-27) – Reconstruction of Interstate 40 at Mayflower will necessitate alternately closing the eastbound on-ramp and the westbound off-ramp at Highway 89 beginning Thursday morning, June 29, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

Starting Thursday at 9:00 a.m., the eastbound on-ramp will be closed until 3:00 p.m. to facilitation construction.  On Friday, June 30 beginning at 2:00 a.m. the westbound off-ramp at Highway 89 will be closed until 10:00 a.m.

At the same time as the ramp closures, a single eastbound and westbound lane will be closed.  During the construction period, both eastbound lanes will be open between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  Both westbound lanes will also be open between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. each day.  All construction will take place at the announced times, weather permitting.

The work is being expedited in preparation for the July 4th holiday weekend.  All lanes should be open from mid-morning Friday, June 30 through the evening of Wednesday, July 5.

Freshour Construction Co., Inc. of Cabot, Arkansas was awarded a $15,185,047.72 contract for the six-mile project.  The work is expected to be complete later this year.

Motorists may want to use Highway 365 as an alternate route or allow extra time during the construction period.  For up to the minute construction information on the I-40 reconstruction project, motorists may tune to 1680 AM near the construction area or access the Department’s Internet website at www.arkansashighways.com.
