AHTD to Hold Public Meeting in Dumas on Proposed Arkansas Scenic Byway

LITTLE ROCK (10-17) -- The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will host a public hearing on Monday, October 30 concerning the designation of the Great River Road Scenic Byway, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers. The meeting will be held in the Dumas Community Center located at 18 Belmont St. in Dumas.

The hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m. at which time Department personnel will make a presentation of the Arkansas Scenic Byway proposal. Citizens will be given the opportunity to express their views publicly at that time.

The public meeting is being held so that all interested persons, agencies and organizations will have the opportunity to express their views regarding the proposed designation of the Great River Road as an Arkansas Scenic Byway. The route covered by this proposal begins on Highway 82 at the Mississippi state line west to Highway 65; Highway 65 north from the Louisiana line to Dumas; Highway 165 north to Dewitt; Highway 1 north to Highway 316; Highway 316 east to Highway 18; Highway 318 south to Highway 20; Highway 20 east to Elaine; Highway 44 north through Helena; Phillips County Routes 239 and 217 and Lee County Route 221 through the St. Francis National Forest; Highway 44 to Marianna; Highway 79 north to Highway 38; Highway 38 east to Highway 147; Highway 147 north to Highway 70; Highway 70 and I-55 through West Memphis to the Tennessee line; Highway 77 from Highway 70 in West Memphis north to Highway 61; and Highway 61 through Blytheville to the Missouri line.

Individuals interested in this proposal are encouraged to attend this meeting and to provide written or oral comments. All interested persons will be heard at the public hearing.
