Arkansas Highway Commissioner Elected to Chair National Committee

LITTLE ROCK (12-12) – Arkansas Highway Commission Chairman John “M” Lipton of Warren has been elected Chairman of the Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

Lipton’s election came at the AASHTO Annual Meeting held in Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, December 9. Donna Wanitschke of Nebraska will serve as Vice Chair. Lipton previously served as the Vice Chair of the committee.

The Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards develops programs for presentation to the AASHTO general membership and recommends policy positions and resolutions to the AASHTO Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Meetings are scheduled by the Chairman as needed to enable the committee to complete its duties.

“I’m very honored to serve as chairman of this committee,” Lipton said. “With so many things happening in transportation on the national level, I think it’s important to stay as informed as possible. This committee provides a mechanism to obtain that information and to share with commissioners from other states.”
