Arkansas Highway Commission Announces Recreational Trail Project Funding

LITTLE ROCK (10-8) – The Arkansas State Highway Commission has authorized funding for several projects under the Arkansas Recreational Trails Programs for the upcoming year, according to Commissioner Carl Rosenbaum of Little Rock.

Funded projects include the following:

  • The Sylamore Ranger District received $80,000 to layout and construct 22 miles of paved pathways for a Mountain Bike Trail.
  • The City of North Little Rock received $78,873 to pave a Hike and Bike Trail from Burns Park to Cooks Landing.
  • The Arkansas Trail Riders Association received $7,800 for the purchase and installation of hitching posts, signage and picnic tables along the Two Rivers Equestrian Trail.

"The Highway and Transportation Department is involved in more than the state highway system," said Rosenbaum. "We’re involved with other programs as well, programs such as the recreational trails. The Highway Commission is pleased to play a role in the development of these popular attractions."
