Notice to MediaInterstate 130 to be designated in Arkansas LITTLE
ROCK (1-10) – Interstate 130 will be the official designation for Loop 245
in Texarkana upon completion of the highway from Interstate 30 to U.S. Highway
71, according to Arkansas Highway Commissioner Mary P. "Prissy"
Hickerson of Texarkana. The
Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department requested the designation
from the Special Committee on Route Numbering of the American Association of
State Highway and Transportation Officials in the fall of 2000. AHTD officials
were recently notified that the request has been approved. The
5.8-mile portion of Loop 245 from I-30 to U.S. Highway 71 in Texarkana will
feature signs designating the highway as “Future I-130” until the route is
completed to full Interstate standards. “Progress
is continuing toward the completion of a fully-controlled access facility,”
explained Dan Flowers, Director of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation
Department. “This designation of the route as ‘Future I-130’ is an
important step in establishing Interstate status to the Loop,” Flowers added. “This
Interstate Spur route will greatly enhance travel between I-30 and the
industrial areas of Texarkana and would ultimately become a part of the overall
route from Kansas City to Shreveport,” Hickerson said.
