Notice to MediaAHTD Receives National Awards for Quality Construction
LITTLE ROCK (5-04) –
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation
Department (AHTD) has been selected by the National Asphalt Pavement Association
(NAPA) for two Quality in Construction Awards.
“The Department prides itself on building quality projects utilizing the
latest in technology to improve Arkansas’ highway system.
Receiving these two awards speaks to this effort,” stated AHTD Director
Dan Flowers upon notification of the awards. The Department received one award for the rehabilitation of seven miles of Interstate 30 in Hempstead County between Hope and Emmett. This $7.07 million project exceeded the surface requirements and doubled its goal of hiring disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE), while exhibiting extraordinary coordination between prime and subcontractors to minimize traffic delays. The contractor for the project was Texarkana Asphalt, Inc., of Texarkana, Texas.
The second award
was granted to the Department for the $6.8 million project to construct 7.4
miles of Highway 65 on new location from the Missouri state line to Burlington
in Boone County. The Federal
Highway Administration noted in its Final Acceptance Report: “The pavement ride quality and surface consistency are well
above the norm. Project personnel
did an outstanding job on the project as a whole.
The Department and contractor should be commended for building a
high-quality project.” Leo
Journagan Construction Company, Inc., of Springfield, Missouri was the
contractor for this project. ####
