Notice to MediaFunds Available for Job Access/Reverse Commute Transportation AssistanceLITTLE ROCK (7-5) – The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation
Department (AHTD) has federal funds available for job access and transportation
from the inner city to the suburbs for employment in Arkansas, according to AHTD
Director Dan Flowers. These
funds were appropriated by Congress to help improve mobility and economic
opportunity for welfare recipients and other low-income individuals through new
and expanded transportation activities in Arkansas.
Job access involves transporting persons to the employment site while
reverse commute is transporting individuals from the inner city to the suburbs
for employment. Public and private
nonprofit entities eligible under other Federal Transit Administration programs
are eligible to apply for and utilize these funds. The
funds will be available to successful applicants on a matching basis.
One half of a project’s cost will come from the federal funds allocated
to the state, while the other half will come from the project’s sponsor. Organizations
who would like to apply for these funds may call

be eligible, applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, July 20,
