Notice to MediaAHTD Announces Transportation Assistance ProgramLITTLE ROCK (7-13) – New vehicles are available to community organizations that offer transportation services for the disabled or elderly through a program administered by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD), according to Dan Flowers, Director of the AHTD. “Our
Department has a long history of helping organizations provide transportation
assistance for Arkansans,” Flowers said. “This program uses federal funds to
provide vehicles to qualifying organizations. The federal funds pay for 80
percent of new vans or buses, while the sponsoring organization only has to pay
20 percent of the cost,” he noted.
Private
nonprofit corporations and associations which transport persons for purposes
such as meals, health services, and educational or recreational activities may
apply for this program. Public entities may apply when a nonprofit corporation
is not readily available in the area. Organizations
who would like to apply for this program may call (501) 569-2471 for an application. Applications are also available
electronically by accessing the AHTD website at www.arkansashighways.com
and clicking on the Publications button. To
be considered, applications must be received no later than Wednesday, August 15,
2001. ####
