Highway Work Scheduled Near Prothro Junction

LITTLE ROCK (8-16) – A contractor for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) will be shifting traffic in preparation for removing and replacing concrete pavement on Interstate 40 near Prothro Junction beginning Friday, August 17 through Saturday, August 18, 2001, weather permitting, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

This work is part of the Interstate Rehabilitation Program, which will improve 60% of the state’s 655-mile Interstate system.  This particular project is part of the rehabilitation of approximately nine miles of Interstate 40 from Highway 67 to the Lonoke County line. 

The work will require temporary lane closures on the following dates and times: 

Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18

• Beginning at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 17 and continuing through midnight Saturday, August 18, eastbound traffic on Interstate 40 will be placed on temporary lanes adjacent to the existing main lanes from Highway 67 Junction west to Prothro Junction.  Traffic will utilize these temporary lanes while the existing main lane concrete pavement in this section is removed and replaced.

• Traffic on the eastbound entrance ramp from Springhill Drive to I-40 east, the exit ramp from   I-40 east to Springhill Drive, and the ramp from Highway 67/167 south to I-40 east should expect temporary delays entering I-40 on Friday and Saturday.  Similar work was completed on the westbound side of I-40 approximately three weeks ago.

As always, motorists are urged to “Think Ahead”, “Buckle-up” and exercise caution when approaching and traveling through work zones.
