Notice to MediaArkansas Highway Commissioner Elected As Chair of Regional Committee LITTLE ROCK (8-29) - Arkansas Highway Commission Chairman John “M” Lipton of Warren has been elected Chairman of the Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards of the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (SASHTO). Lipton’s election came at the SASHTO Annual Meeting held in Asheville, North Carolina on Tuesday, August 28, 2001.
SASHTO is a regional organization comprised of highway officials from 12
southeaster states. The Special Committee of Commissioners and Boards
develops programs for presentation to the SASHTO general membership and
recommends policy positions and resolutions to the SASHTO Executive Committee
and Board of Directors. Meetings are scheduled by the Chairman as needed
to enable the committee to complete its duties.
Lipton also serves as Chairman of the American Association of State
Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Special Committee of Commissioners
and Boards, a nation-wide governing body. Lipton
was elected chair of the AASHTO committee last December. “I’m very honored to serve as chairman of both of these committees,” Lipton said. “With so many things happening in transportation on the regional and national levels, I think it’s important to stay as informed as possible. These committees provide a mechanism to obtain that information and to share with commissioners from other states.” #### For Further Information Contact:
