Notice to MediaHighway Department Awards Southeast Arkansas Contracts LITTLE ROCK (8-31) – The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has awarded two contracts totaling almost $12 million to improve sections of State Highways in Desha and Ashley Counties, according to AHTD Commission Chairman John "M" Lipton of Warren. "Highways 65 and 82 are major routes for travelers through Southeast Arkansas," said Lipton. "These improvements will benefit these busy sections of roadway." Ideal Construction Company, of Crossett, was awarded a $7,267,069.38 contract to widen 3.5 miles of Highway 65 in Dumas. The existing three-lane urban section will be widened to five lanes with curb and gutters. Beyond the curbed section, the roadway will be widened to four lanes with an open shoulder and an 11-foot painted median. Weather permitting, the project could start in the next several weeks.Robertson Contractors, Inc., of Poplar Bluff, was awarded a $4,135,191.85 contract to replace two bridges on Highway 82 west of Montrose. The project will be completed by the end of 2002 and could start in the next several weeks, weather permitting.
