ARKANSAS HIGHWAY COMMISSION ANNOUNCES RECREATIONAL TRAIL PROJECT FUNDING

LITTLE ROCK (10-8) – The Arkansas State Highway Commission has authorized funding for several projects under the Arkansas Recreational Trails Programs for the upcoming year, according to Commissioner Prissy Hickerson of Texarkana.

Funded projects include the following:

  • Clarksville was awarded $81,793 for their Spadra Creek Trail. Plans call for an 8-foot wide paved multiple use trail with benches, water fountains and picnic tables.
  • Russellville was awarded $42,500 to chip and seal the four-mile Bona Dea Trail.
  • The City of Nashville received $36,380 to construct a 6-foot wide multiple use path in the Nashville City Park.

"The Highway and Transportation Department is involved in more than the state highway system," said Hickerson. "We’re involved with other programs as well, programs such as the recreational trails. The Highway Commission is pleased to play a role in the development of these popular attractions."
