Arkansas Highway Commission Announces Recreational Trail Project Funding

LITTLE ROCK (10-8) – The Arkansas State Highway Commission has authorized funding for several projects under the Arkansas Recreational Trails Programs for the upcoming year, according to Commission Vice Chairman J.W. "Buddy" Benafield of Hickory Plaines.

Funded projects include the following:

  • The City of Marion received the state’s largest fund of $118,853 to construct a 1.2-mile paved trail around the lake in City Park.
  • The town of Etowah received $34,820 to fund construction of .6 miles of an 8-foot-wide paved multiple use trail and install benches along the Etowah Trail in City Park.
  • Dell received $13,000 to construct .5 miles of the Cypress Park Trail.

"The Highway and Transportation Department is involved in more than the state highway system," said Benafield. "We’re involved with other programs as well, programs such as the recreational trails. The Highway Commission is pleased to play a role in the development of these popular attractions."
