LITTLE ROCK (10-8) – The Arkansas State Highway Commission
has authorized funding for several projects under the Arkansas Recreational
Trails Programs for the upcoming year, according to Commissioner Jonathan
Barnett of Siloam Springs.
Funded projects include the following:
The City of Gentry received $50,000 to construct .4 miles of paved
pathways along the Gentry Trails.
The City of Prairie Grove received $47,360 to pave the Prairie Grove Trail
around the perimeter of the City Park.
The City of Sulpher Springs received $30,000 to construct 750 feet of
sidewalk and 3,050 feet of pathways along the Sulpher Springs Trail.
Tontitown received $25,516 to construct a paved multiple use trail in the
City Park.
The Newton County Resource Council received $13,797 to construct
barrier-free trails and build benches in the Round Top Mountain Scenic
Hiking Trail.
"The Highway and Transportation Department is involved
in more than the state highway system," said Barnett. "We’re
involved with other programs as well, programs such as the recreational trails.
The Highway Commission is pleased to play a role in the development of these
popular attractions."
