The Surveys Division uses highly technical field survey
instruments, Global Positioning System (GPS), aerial photography, aerial
mapping, photo scanners, computers and Computer-Aided Drafting and Design
Systems (CADD) workstations to obtain and compile physical land features.
Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM) computer software is then used to provide
information for location and design of roadways and bridges. Land surveys
are performed for preparation of legal descriptions and survey plats on
land acquired by the AHTD.
